Torrevento Vigna Pedale Castel del Monte Riserva

Three red glasses from Gambero Rosso 2024 — the guide's highest award — for the 2019 vintage. The Vigna Pedale from Apulia is one of the benchmark wines of the Castel del Monte region.

Torrevento is one of Apulia's defining wineries. The cooperative based near Corato has been working for decades on the appreciation of autochthonous grape varieties — above all Nero di Troia, from which the Vigna Pedale is vinified as a single varietal. The vines grow on the calcareous high plateau of the Murge at about 300 meters altitude, which ensures a natural freshness for the wine despite the southern Italian sun.

In the glass, rich cherry red with ruby reflections. On the nose, black currant, blackberry, and plum, underlaid with clove, tobacco, and a hint of dried herbs. On the palate, the wine shows the characteristic grip of Nero di Troia: dense but well-integrated tannins, lively acidity, and a long finish with roasted aromas and dark cocoa.
