Torrevento Vigna Pedale Castel del Monte Riserva
Three red glasses from Gambero Rosso 2024 — the guide's highest award — for the 2019 vintage. The Vigna Pedale from Apulia is one of the benchmark wines of the Castel del Monte region.
Torrevento is one of Puglia's most influential wineries. Based near Corato, the cooperative has been working for decades to enhance indigenous grape varieties—most notably Nero di Troia , from which the Vigna Pedale is produced as a single varietal. The vines grow on the calcareous Murge plateau at an altitude of approximately 300 meters, which ensures the wine a natural freshness despite the southern Italian sun.
In the glass, a rich cherry red with ruby reflections. The nose offers blackcurrant, blackberry, and plum, underpinned by clove, tobacco, and a hint of dried herbs. On the palate, the wine displays the characteristic grip of Nero di Troia: dense yet well-integrated tannins, lively acidity, and a long finish with roasted aromas and dark cocoa.
