Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos Saint-Jacques

Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos Saint-Jacques
Clos Saint-Jacques is among the most sought-after vineyards in Gevrey-Chambertin – considered by many critics to be of Grand Cru caliber, although it is officially classified as a Premier Cru. Louis Jadot, one of the most important négociant houses in the Côte d'Or, with roots dating back to 1859, vinifies this vineyard with the respect such a terroir demands.
In the glass, it displays a deep ruby red color. The bouquet opens with sour cherry and cassis, underpinned by violets, a hint of cedar, and fine earth – typical of the iron-rich, loamy-calcareous soil of the vineyard. On the palate, it is medium to full-bodied, with fine-grained tannins and lively acidity that gives the wine tension and length. The finish is long and spicy, with a lingering aftertaste of blackberry and tobacco.
