Beaujolais

Geographically, the Beaujolais wine region is part of Burgundy. Nevertheless, due to the unique characteristics of its wines, it is considered a wine region in its own right. While the soil in the north consists of granite, the southern side is characterized by limestone soil. On a 22,000-hectare vineyard area, special attention is paid to the cultivation of the red, characteristic Gamay grape variety. A wine made from the red, indigenous Gamay grape variety has a low tannin content and complements this with a rich, fresh aroma. The Gamay grape occupies almost 99% of the entire cultivation area in the wine region and is therefore considered the dominant ruler in Beaujolais.
