Moulin-à-Vent Clos du Grand Carquelin Château des Jacques

Moulin-à-Vent Clos du Grand Carquelin Château des Jacques
Moulin-à-Vent is considered the most full-bodied and longest-lived of the ten Beaujolais crus — and the Clos du Grand Carquelin from Château des Jacques shows why. Not a light, easy-drinking wine, but a red wine with genuine aging potential.
Château des Jacques has been part of Maison Louis Jadot since 1996 and cultivates some of the best vineyards in Moulin-à-Vent. The Clos du Grand Carquelin is a monopole vineyard on manganese-rich weathered granite soil—it is precisely this soil that gives the Gamay its unusual structure and density, more commonly associated with Burgundy.
Deep cherry red in the glass. The nose offers dark berry fruit—blackberry, black cherry—with a hint of violet and subtle spice reminiscent of allspice and dried herbs. On the palate, medium to full-bodied, with fine, well-integrated tannins and a lively acidity that supports the wine. The finish is long, spicy, and slightly mineral.
Serving temperature: 16–17 °C. Drinking window: now until 2030, with further development possible. Pairs well with duck breast with cherries , leg of lamb with rosemary, or strong soft cheeses such as Époisses.
