Morgon Château des Jacques

Morgon is the meatiest of the ten Beaujolais crus — and Château des Jacques delivers exactly what this site promises: a Gamay that shows what the grape variety is truly capable of.

The winery has been part of Maison Louis Jadot since 1996 and is located in the heart of Beaujolais. The vineyards around Morgon grow on weathered manganese schist, known as Roche Pourrie —a subsoil that gives the Gamay more structure and depth than elsewhere in the region. Fermentation takes place exclusively with natural yeasts, without the purchase of cultures, in order to preserve the pure expression of the terroir.

In the glass, dark cherry aromas are revealed, along with a hint of plum and a subtle nutty note in the background. The body is unusually dense for a Gamay, the tannins firm but not harsh, and the finish long and slightly spicy.

Serving suggestion: Best served at 14–16 °C. Pairs well with lamb loin, grilled duck breast, or mature Époisses. The drinking window is still open—those who wait will be rewarded with greater complexity.
