Morgon Château des Jacques

Morgon is the fleshiest among the ten Beaujolais Crus — and Château des Jacques delivers exactly what this site promises: a Gamay that shows what the grape variety is really capable of.

The winery has belonged to Maison Louis Jadot since 1996 and is located in the heart of Beaujolais. The sites around Morgon grow on weathered manganese schist, the so-called Roche Pourrie — a subsoil that gives the Gamay more structure and depth than elsewhere in the region. Fermentation is carried out exclusively with natural yeasts, without the purchase of cultures, to keep the terroir expression unadulterated.

In the glass, it shows dark cherry, a hint of plum, and a fine nutty note in the background. The body is unusually dense for a Gamay, the tannins firm but not coarse, the finish long and slightly spicy.

Drinking recommendation: Best served at 14–16 °C. Pairs with lamb loin, grilled duck breast, or mature Époisses. Those who wait will be rewarded with more complexity.
