Moulin-à-Vent Clos de Rochegrès Château des Jacques DOPPELMAGNUM in HK

The Moulin-à-Vent is considered the most full-bodied and longest-lived of the ten Beaujolais Crus — and the Clos de Rochegrès from Château des Jacques is one of the most convincing single vineyards of this appellation. The 3.5-hectare plot lies on manganese-rich granite weathered soil, which gives the Gamay a structure rarely found in this grape variety.

Château des Jacques has belonged to Maison Louis Jadot since 1996 and has been managed with Burgundian care ever since: hand-picking, whole-bunch fermentation, aging in barriques. The result is a Gamay that stylistically approaches a Pinot Noir — without denying its independent origin. On the nose, dark cherry, violets, and an earthy undertone of damp granite. On the palate, medium to full body, firm but polished tannins, lively acidity, and a long, slightly peppery finish.

The double magnum (3 liters) noticeably slows down maturation compared to a normal bottle. Serving temperature: 16–17 °C. Pairs with rack of lamb with herb crust, mature Comté, or entrecôte — and looks good on any larger table, if only because of the format.
