Moulin-à-Vent Clos du Grand Carquelin Château des Jacques

Moulin-à-Vent is considered the most full-bodied and longest-lived of the ten Beaujolais Crus — and the Clos du Grand Carquelin from Château des Jacques shows why. Not a light drinking wine, but a red wine with real aging potential.

Château des Jacques has belonged to Maison Louis Jadot since 1996 and manages some of the best sites in Moulin-à-Vent. The Clos du Grand Carquelin is a monopoly site on manganese-rich granite weathering soil — it is precisely this soil that gives the Gamay its unusual structure and density, which one usually associates more with Burgundy.

In the glass, deep cherry red. On the nose, dark berry fruit — blackberry, black cherry — with a hint of violets and subtle spice reminiscent of allspice and dried herbs. On the palate, medium to full body, fine, well-integrated tannins, and a lively acid structure that carries the wine. The finish is long, spicy, and slightly mineral.

Serving temperature: 16–17 °C. Further development possible. Pairs with duck breast with cherries, leg of lamb with rosemary, or strong soft cheese like Époisses.
