Moulin-à-Vent Clos du Grand Carquelin Château des Jacques Magnum

Moulin-à-Vent is the longest-lived of the ten Beaujolais Crus — and the Clos du Grand Carquelin from Château des Jacques shows why. Here, Gamay matures into a red wine whose origin is barely recognizable after a few years.

Château des Jacques has been part of Maison Louis Jadot since 1996 and is considered a showcase estate of the Beaujolais. The single vineyard Grand Carquelin lies on the typical granite weathering soil of Moulin-à-Vent — this very subsoil gives the Gamay its unusual structure and minerality. Vinification is classically Burgundian: long maceration, aging in wooden barrels.

In the glass: deep cherry red. The nose reveals wild cherry, blackberry, and a hint of dried violets — with a little air, spicy notes of black pepper and licorice emerge. On the palate, dense yet surprisingly fresh, with firmly integrated tannins and a long, slightly mineral finish. The magnum bottle further slows down the maturation.

Serving recommendation: Served at 16–17 °C. Pairs with coq au vin, duck breast with cherries, or ripe Époisses. As a magnum, ideal for the large table.
