Morgon Château of Jacques Maison Louis Jadot

Morgon is considered the most powerful of the ten Beaujolais crus – and Château des Jacques, managed by Maison Louis Jadot since 1996, is among the estates that confirm this reputation year after year. The winery cultivates around 30 hectares in the heart of the appellation, a large portion of which lies on the famous "Côte du Py" hill with its volcanic manganese rock, known as Roche Pourrie. This soil imparts a mineral density and aging potential to the Gamay grapes that are rarely found in Beaujolais.

In the glass, the wine displays a rich cherry red with violet reflections. On the nose, it opens with aromas of sour cherry, ripe blackberry, and a hint of cassis blossom, underpinned by notes of damp forest floor, violets, and a light, spicy earthiness. On the palate, the wine is fuller than a typical Beaujolais: the tannins are present and well-structured without being harsh. The acidity is fresh and lively, keeping the wine lean and giving it length. The finish is persistent, slightly spicy, with a lingering aftertaste of dark fruit and a touch of graphite.

Château des Jacques vinifies the Morgon in the Burgundian style – with destemming, controlled maceration, and aging in barriques. This stylistically distinguishes this wine significantly from a classic Beaujolais Nouveau style and explains its aging potential.

Serving suggestion: Drinkable now, will continue to develop until 2028–2029. Serve at 14–16 °C. Pairs well with entrecôte, leg of lamb with thyme, coq au vin, or a robust Munster.
