Fleurie Domaine des Hospices de Belleville AC 0.75L
Fleurie is considered the most floral of the ten Beaujolais Crus — and the Domaine des Hospices de Belleville under the umbrella of Maison Joseph Drouhin shows why this reputation is justified. Selected parcels in the appellation provide Gamay with the elegance that distinguishes Fleurie from the more robust neighbors like Moulin-à-Vent or Morgon.
In the glass, the wine glows ruby red with violet reflections. On the nose, it opens with violets and fresh rose, behind which are red cherry and raspberry. The palate is light-footed with soft tannins, lively acidity, and a long, floral finish — typical for Gamay on the granitic soil of Fleurie.
It is best to drink it at 14–16 °C — slightly chilled so that the fruit and the floral notes come into their own. It pairs with charcuterie, grilled salmon, fresh goat cheese, or a summery tomato tapenade bread. It also makes a good figure as an uncomplicated companion to an evening on the terrace.
