Moulin-à-Vent Gimarets

Moulin-à-Vent is considered the "kingdom" of Beaujolais—the wines here have more structure, more depth, and more aging potential than a simple Beaujolais Nouveau ever achieves. The Gimarets from Château de Durette perfectly illustrates this: a Gamay that has shed its lightness.

Château de Durette lies in the heart of the Moulin-à-Vent appellation on manganese-rich, granitic soils—the subsoil that gives Gamay its unusual tannin structure and minerality. The Gimarets parcel is one of the estate's classic sites.

In the glass, the wine shines ruby red with violet reflections. On the nose, it opens with blackberry, ripe cherries, and a hint of violet. On the palate, it displays a medium body with pleasantly firm tannins—quite noticeable for a Gamay—and a fresh acidity that lends length to the finish. Dark fruit, a touch of licorice, and a clean finish.

Serving temperature 14–16 °C. Ready to drink now, but will easily keep for another 3–5 years. Pairs well with grilled rack of lamb, duck breast with cherries, or a robust Époisses.
