The brothers Olivier and Bruno Bererd manage their vineyards in Le Perréon – in the Beaujolais-Villages area, which is known for its mineral-rich granite terroir. For generations, the family has known every stone of their slopes, and that is exactly what you feel in the glass: no artificial finesse, but true origin.
The wines of Domaine de la Madone are fruity and lively without appearing flat. The Gamay on weathered granite gives them a mineral tension that many Beaujolais lack. Especially the Vieilles Vignes – from vines between 70 and 100 years old – shows what depth and structure this Cru can develop: denser fruit, finer tannin, longer finish.
Anyone who has previously dismissed Beaujolais as a light everyday wine will find a good reason to rethink here. The Bererds' wines go well with charcuterie, poultry, or a ripe goat cheese from the Loire – and can also be left to develop in the cellar for a few years.
