Juliéna’s “Clos des Chers” AOC
The Juliénas «Clos des Chers» demonstrates what Gamay can achieve on one of the northernmost Beaujolais crus: red fruit with floral depth, lively acidity and tannins that blend elegantly into the overall picture.
Behind the wine is the Perrachon family—rooted in the region since 1601, now in its fifth and sixth generations. They cultivate 26 hectares of vineyards in six Cru sites, including Juliénas, Morgon, and Moulin-à-Vent. The "Clos des Chers" comes from one of these meticulously tended single-vineyard parcels. The grapes are harvested by hand and vinified using the traditional Beaujolais carbonic maceration method, which preserves the fruit aromas and keeps the tannins soft. The wine then matures slowly in the historic cellar dating back to 1702.
On the nose, the wine opens with aromas of red cherry, raspberry, and peony—clear and balanced. On the palate, it is fresh and lively, the tannins are finely integrated, and the finish is fruity and lingering. Not a heavy wine, but one with real backbone.
Best served between 14–16 °C . Pairs well with Lyonnaise charcuterie, grilled rack of lamb, or a mature goat cheese. Thanks to the Perrachon family's philosophy of aging potential, it can also be cellared for several years.
