Cahors – the original Malbec from the southwest of France

Anyone who knows Malbec usually thinks of Argentina first. But the true home of this grape variety lies in the French southwest: in Cahors, a small appellation in the Lot Valley. Here, the grape is traditionally called Côt or Auxerrois and produces red wines that differ noticeably from their Argentine relatives – earthier, edgier, with a dark fruit and a tannin structure that really blossoms after some time in the glass.

Cahors wines are deep-colored and full-bodied, with a characteristic spice and a certain austerity that makes them true food companions. Dark meat, game dishes, or strong cheese – this is where Cahors finds its natural place at the table.
