Matayac Cahors Malbec
North and northwest of the university city of Toulouse is the actual Haut-Pays, the area of the most interesting Cahors appellation. The viticulture of the Haut-Pays was actually developed much earlier than the viticulture of the Gironde, but suffered severe setbacks. In the Middle Ages, the monasteries had decisively promoted the viticulture of the area. Around 1720, Cahors experienced its golden age. As in all other wine-growing regions of France, the phylloxera destroyed all vineyards at the end of the 19th century. The great, black wine of Cahors was almost forgotten. But for two decades, the region has succeeded, especially through individual winemakers with outstanding wines, in attracting the attention of wine lovers. For them, the southwest of France has become a treasure trove of high-level wines.
The Matayac Cahors Malbec is a balanced, medium-bodied red wine whose bouquet is reminiscent of vanilla and red fruits. Fine tannins and a noble wood note, which has its origin in the aging in barriques, round off the pleasant taste.

The Domaine
It would have been easier to rest on safe values. But the Castell family thinks further ahead. They preserve the know-how, pass the passion on to the next generation, and maintain their châteaus and domains – with joy and foresight.
For them, wine is more than a product: It is about culture. About sharing knowledge, about exchange with chefs, sommeliers, and everyone who loves taste. Producing country wines and Grands Crus is one thing. The other: not keeping anything to themselves.
Sustainable, responsible, and with heart. Because at Castel Châteaux & Grands Crus, they live by the conviction that wine must follow its ideas. Persistent, courageous, and with a flame that carries on – from generation to generation.
