Matayac Cahors Malbec

North and northwest of the university city of Toulouse lies the Haut-Pays region, home to the renowned Cahors appellation. Viticulture in the Haut-Pays was actually developed much earlier than in the Gironde, but suffered severe setbacks. In the Middle Ages, monasteries played a crucial role in promoting winemaking in the area. Around 1720, Cahors experienced its golden age. As in all other wine-growing regions of France, phylloxera devastated the vineyards at the end of the 19th century. The great, dark wine of Cahors was almost forgotten. However, for the past two decades, the region, and especially individual winemakers with outstanding wines, has been successfully attracting the attention of wine lovers. For them, southwestern France has become a treasure trove of high-quality wines. The Matayac Cahors Malbec is a well-balanced, medium-bodied red wine with a bouquet reminiscent of vanilla and red fruits. Fine tannins and a noble wood note, which originates from aging in barriques, round off the pleasing taste.
