Volnay 1er Cru Clos de la Barre Monopole Louis Jadot

A Volnay as it is in the textbook – and yet with a signature of its own: The Clos de la Barre belongs exclusively to Louis Jadot, a monopoly in the middle of one of the most elegant red wine appellations of the Côte de Beaune.

Volnay has no Grands Crus, but doesn't need any either. The 29 Premiers Crus of the appellation count among the most delicate Pinot Noir expressions in all of Burgundy. Louis Jadot, based in Beaune for over 160 years, manages the Clos de la Barre as the sole owner – the terroir flows undivided into a single signature.

In the glass, it shows what Volnay is known for: aromas of red cherry and raspberry, underpinned by violets and a hint of cedar wood. The tannin is silky, the acidity precise, the finish of medium length with a floral note. Not a heavyweight – but a wine that lives from finesse.

Serving recommendation: Good with duck breast with cherry sauce, rack of lamb with herb crust, or mature Époisses. Serving temperature 16–17 °C.
