Volnay 1er Cru Clos de la Barre Monopole Louis Jadot

Volnay 1er Cru Clos de la Barre Monopole Louis Jadot
A textbook example of Volnay – yet with its own unique character: Clos de la Barre belongs exclusively to Louis Jadot, a monopoly in the heart of one of the most elegant red wine appellations of the Côte de Beaune.
Volnay has no Grands Crus, nor does it need any. The appellation's 29 Premiers Crus are among the most refined expressions of Pinot Noir in all of Burgundy. Louis Jadot, based in Beaune for over 160 years, manages Clos de la Barre as the sole owner – the terroir flows entirely into a single, unified style.
In the glass, Volnay reveals what it's known for: aromas of red cherry and raspberry, underpinned by violets and a hint of cedar. The tannins are silky, the acidity precise, the finish medium-long with a floral note. Not a heavyweight – but a wine that thrives on finesse.
Serving suggestion: Pairs well with duck breast with cherry sauce, rack of lamb with herb crust, or aged Époisses. Serving temperature 16–17 °C. Drink now until 2030.
