Burgenland is Austria's great home of red wine. Anyone taking a sip here will experience wines with substance and character: Zweigelt and Blaufränkisch are the defining varieties of the region – fruity and spicy for the former, with more depth and structure for the latter. Joining them is the elegant St. Laurent, which can surprise with its velvetiness. Between Lake Neusiedl and Central Burgenland
The large Lake Neusiedl noticeably influences the climate around its shores and creates special conditions for red wines with fruit and accessibility. Wineries such as Paul Achs and Seegut Lentsch stand for this style – clear, easy-drinking, with regional expression. Weingut Gesellmann, in turn, shows that Burgenland also produces more complex, age-worthy cuvées.
