The Steinzeiler from the Kollwentz winery represents what Blaufränkisch can achieve in Burgenland: depth without heaviness, power with a clear structure.

The Kollwentz-Römerhof winery in Großhöflein on the Leithagebirge has been one of the most reliable addresses for Burgenland red wine for decades. The family consistently brings out the best in their sites — the Steinzeiler is an expression of the middle spectrum: accessible, but not arbitrary.

In the glass, the Blaufränkisch shows dark cherry, blackberry, and a typical pepper note that distinguishes the grape variety from other Central European red wines. Added to this is a lively acidity that gives the wine tension, and tannins that are present but well-integrated. The finish is spicy and persistent.

Best enjoyed with hearty dishes: beef goulash, roast duck, or mature mountain cheese. Drinking temperature: 16–18 °C. Decanting it slightly brings more of the fruit into the glass.
