The Kremstal is one of Austria's oldest wine regions, beautifully blending history with modern viticulture. Picturesque vineyards, shaped by the Danube and enjoying a mild, temperate climate, stretch around the historic city of Krems. Here, wines with depth, elegance, and a truly unique character are produced.

Grüner Veltliner also dominates in the Kremstal region, but it presents itself differently than in neighboring regions: somewhat fruitier, more approachable, and with a harmonious balance between spice and freshness. The best vineyard sites, such as Pfaffenberg, Wachtberg, and Gebling, produce wines that enjoy international acclaim and are among the best in Austria.

But the Kremstal region has another ace up its sleeve: Riesling. On the ancient rock soils north of the Danube, this noble grape variety thrives, producing magnificent wines with fine acidity, mineral structure, and enormous aging potential. These Rieslings are not for those in a hurry – they need time to develop their full complexity.

Kremstal ist nach dem Fluss Krems benannt, der die Wein-Region durchfließt und im Kamptal mündet. Die fast 2.400 Hektar große Rebfläche verläuft durch drei unterschiedliche Zonen. Dazu gehören die gleichnamige Stadt Krems, die kleinen Weinorte rund um Göttweig und das Kremstal selbst. Seit 2007 besitzt Kremstal die Bezeichnung DAC, aufgrund ihrer würzigen grünen Veltliner und den feinen, mineralischen Rieslingen. Der grüne Veltliner nimmt mittlerweile mehr als 50 % der gesamten Rebfläche in der Wein-Region Kremstal ein. Dieser wird auf Löss- und Lehmböden an steilen Terrassen-Weingärten seitlich der Donau gekeltert. Ebenso liegt im Kremstal die Kremser Sandgrube. Diese ist schon seit dem Jahr 1208 bekannt und bringt die österreichische Spezialität “Pfefferl” hervor. Ein Pfefferl aus der beliebten weißen Rebsorte Grüner Veltliner weist auf einen fruchtigen Geschmack mit einer pfeffrigen Würze.
