Lower Austria

Wines from Lower Austria

Lower Austria is Austria's most important wine-growing state – and you can feel that in the glass. The region combines very different climatic zones: the wind-swept Weinviertel in the north, the west shaped by the Danube with the Wachau, Kremstal, and Kamptal, as well as the warmer Pannonian Lower Austria in the southeast. This diversity produces wines that could hardly be more different in style – from fresh and mineral to ripe and full-bodied.

Grüner Veltliner, Chardonnay, and Sekt

The region's leading variety is undoubtedly the Grüner Veltliner: vinified dry, with vibrant acidity and an unmistakable character that makes it the ideal companion for many dishes. In addition, international varieties such as Chardonnay with real depth also thrive in Lower Austria – and last but not least, the region has produced one of Austria's most famous sparkling wine brands with Schlumberger.
