Katterstein Chardonnay Kollwentz QW Burgenland

The Katterstein Chardonnay from Kollwentz shows an intense green-yellow in the glass and smells spicy and dense: yellow fruits, yeast, and brioche characterize the bouquet.

The Kollwentz – Römerhof winery is located in Großhöflein in Burgenland and is considered one of Austria's most famous addresses for Chardonnay. The Katterstein vineyard is one of the namesakes of this wine. The yeast and brioche note points to aging with yeast contact; we do not have exact details on the aging process.

On the palate, the Chardonnay feels finely structured. Yellow fruit meets slightly nutty hints; the acidity is balanced, the texture silky. The finish remains long and carries the brioche note further.

Recommendation: Serve at 10–12 °C, not too cold, so that the nut and yeast notes come into their own. It pairs well with fried sweetbreads, lobster with butter, risotto with mushrooms, or mature mountain cheese.
