Paul Achs Blaufränkisch Heideboden

A Blaufränkisch that shows what the Pannonian Seewinkel region is capable of: juicy red fruit, clear structure, ready-to-drink character without compromising on depth.

Paul Achs manages his vineyard in Gols on Lake Neusiedl, in the heart of Burgenland. The Heideboden – an extensive gravel terrace with a sandy subsoil – directly shapes this Blaufränkisch: the permeable substrate keeps the vines taut and gives the wine its lively acidity. Paul Achs is considered one of the leading winemakers of the Seewinkel region, known for fruit-forward, clearly vinified red wines that are easy to drink and perfect for everyday enjoyment.

In the glass, the wine shines ruby red. The nose offers ripe sour cherry, cranberry, and wild raspberry—red-fruited, fresh, with a hint of pepper in the background. On the palate, it is juicy and medium-bodied, the tannins firm but smooth, the finish spicy and herbaceous, and pleasantly long.

Serving suggestion: 16–17 °C, ready to drink now. Pairs well with grilled duck breast, goulash, rack of lamb with herbs, or a robust cheese platter. Also a good choice as a casual accompaniment to a weeknight dinner.

Paul Achs Winery

The Paul Achs winery from Gols in Burgenland operates according to a simple but consistent conviction: It is not the man who shapes the wine – it is the soil.

The winery has been family-owned for generations. Paul Achs and his team prioritize patience over control, manual labor over technology. The vineyards around Gols – with their layers of limestone, loam, and clay – provide the raw material. The winemaker listens. The result is wines with depth, finesse, and a true sense of place. The Blaufränkisch Altenberg , in particular, awarded 100 points, demonstrates the potential of this philosophy.
