Tatschler Chardonnay QW Burgenland 0.75L
The Tatschler Chardonnay from the Kollwentz-Römerhof winery shows what Burgenland can achieve with this grape variety: not a pleasing mainstream Chardonnay, but a structured white wine with a clear signature of origin.
The vines grow in a sheltered, southeast-facing location on the Leitha Mountains, on calcareous slate weathering soil – a substrate that imparts tension and minerality to the fruit. Fermentation and aging in small oak barrels give the wine depth and a subtle oak structure without masking the fruit.
On the nose, yellow apple, ripe pear, and a hint of brioche. On the palate, it displays a smooth texture with well-integrated acidity and a long, slightly spicy finish. Serving temperature: 12–14 °C.
It pairs well with veal schnitzel, pasta with truffle cream sauce, or a mature mountain cheese. It also makes a great accompaniment to grilled fish with lemon butter.
