Montes Alpha M

After careful hand-harvesting, the must was fermented and then aged for a full eighteen months in new French oak barrels. Before bottling, the wine was very lightly filtered to preserve its diverse flavors, tannins, and color. The name Montes is a reference to the majestic Andes Mountains, which significantly influence Chile's climate. The grapes for the Montes Alpha M come from the high plateaus of the Apalta Valley, with its 45° slope, located on the Finca de Apalta estate. The term "microclimate" perfectly describes this valley in Colchagua. It is shaped like a crescent moon, bordered to the north by towering, rocky mountains that frame the small valley, while to the south, the Tinguiririca River forms the boundary of this growing area. From the estate, one can see, almost feel, the majestic Andes. The narrow Colchagua Valley benefits from a gentle sea breeze that cools the valley floor from the summer heat. The winery is nestled within a granite mountain, with oak trees at the vineyard's summit. Natural, gentle, traditional cultivation methods, extremely low yields, and hand-picked, selected grapes form the basis of this ultra-premium wine. Although Apalta is still considered a sub-region of Santa Cruz, it is gaining increasing prestige and recognition. Sooner or later, Aurelio Montes is quite certain, Apalta will be recognized as a distinct region. Color: deep, dense red with dark reflections. Aroma: concentrated power and freshness, plenty of cherry, pepper, tobacco, and finely integrated oak. Taste: concentrated and juicy, elegant with lean, classic tannins of a high standard, fine fruit on the palate, and an enchanting interplay of aromas in the finish. Wine Advocate: 92 points.
