Kreuth Chardonnay DOC Magnum

The Kreuth Chardonnay from Cantina Terlan shows what South Tyrol can do with a Burgundian grape variety: not an international uniform style, but a white wine with alpine precision and Mediterranean ripeness.

Cantina Terlan is one of Italy's most renowned cooperatives. Since 1893, the winemakers around the village of Terlan/Terlano have been pressing on volcanic porphyry soils and quartz porphyry – foundations for wines with extraordinary minerality and aging potential. The Kreuth is the estate's site-typical Chardonnay: the grapes come from the single vineyard of the same name at an altitude of around 500 meters, where cool mountain nights preserve the acid structure.

On the nose, ripe apricot, white peach, and a hint of pineapple – carried by subtle vanilla and fine brioche tones from the ten months of oak aging. On the palate, full-bodied, yet by no means heavy: the high altitude ensures a lively acidity that gives the wine length and tension. The finish is warm, spicy, and lasting.

Serving temperature: 12–14 °C. The magnum bottle additionally slows down the aging – ideal if you are saving the wine for a special occasion.
Pairs with veal medallions with butter sauce, scallops, lobster bisque, or an aged mountain cheese from Trentino.

Cantina Terlan

Since 1893, the Terlan winery in the South Tyrolean Adige Valley has stood for something that has become rare in modern viticulture: patience. What 24 winegrowers once founded as a cooperative is today one of the most renowned addresses in alpine viticulture. The house's philosophy focuses on long lees aging and consistent quality instead of quantity. Terlan proves that white wines from volcanic porphyry soil and an alpine microclimate can be among the longest-lived in the world.
