Porphyry Lagrein DOC Riserva

Porphyry Lagrein DOC Riserva
Lagrein is South Tyrol's most distinctive red wine variety — dark, rich in tannins, yet surprisingly velvety. The porphyry soils of Terlan demonstrate what this grape variety can achieve on the region's volcanic porphyry ground.
Founded in 1893, the Terlan winery is one of the most reliable wineries in South Tyrol. As a cooperative with around 100 member wineries, Terlan has relied on long lees aging and rigorous selection for decades – the Riserva line proves that cooperative wine and high quality standards are not mutually exclusive.
In the glass, the porphyry limestone glows a deep garnet red with violet reflections. The nose offers aromas of dark chocolate, violets, and a hint of ripe plum. On the palate, velvety tannins, despite their density, exhibit no harshness—the finish is long and spicy. A classic Lagrein profile, impeccably vinified.
Recommendation: Serving temperature 16–18 °C. Pairs well with venison ragout, braised beef, leg of lamb with rosemary, or strong mountain cheese from Trentino. If opened now, it should be caramelized for at least one hour.
