Gries Lagrein DOC Riserva Magnum

Lagrein in its most concentrated form: The Gries Riserva from Terlan comes from the single vineyard of the same name directly near Bolzano – historically the core area of this autochthonous South Tyrolean grape variety.

Terlan, founded in 1893, is one of the most reliable addresses for South Tyrolean white wines – but the winery also sets standards for Lagrein. The Gries site lies on flat gravel soils of the Adige valley, which give Lagrein particularly dark fruit and structure. It is vinified in a mix of large wooden barrels and barriques, which gives the wine depth without over-oaking it.

In the glass, it shows a deep garnet red. On the nose, blackberry, dark chocolate, and violets – typical for Lagrein, but here with more density and length than in the base wine. On the palate, velvety, ripe tannins, moderate acidity, and a long, slightly cocoa-accented finish.
