Cantina Terlan Gries Lagrein DOC Riserva

Cantina Terlan Gries Lagrein DOC Riserva
The Gries Lagrein Riserva from Cantina Terlan shows what the autochthonous Lagrein grape variety can achieve on its native soil: a dense, garnet-red red wine with real depth and a velvety character.
Cantina Terlan is one of South Tyrol's most prestigious wine cooperatives. The grapes for this Riserva come from the classic Lagrein vineyard near Gries, a district of Bolzano, which has been considered the heart of Lagrein cultivation for centuries. After maceration in stainless steel tanks with controlled temperature and gentle skin contact, the wine matures in large wooden casks (70%) and small new oak barriques (30%). Malolactic fermentation completes the wine's profile.
The glass reveals aromas of sour cherry and dark plum, underpinned by black pepper and a hint of almond brittle. The palate impresses with soft, ripe tannins, good structure, and a long, warm finish with a subtle toasty note from the oak aging.
Pairs well with venison, braised beef, or aged Pecorino cheese. Serving temperature: 16–18 °C. Ready to drink now, but has potential for further cellaring.
