Pine Dance on the Volcano Rotling off-dry

Pine Dance on the Volcano Rotling off-dry
A Rotling – not a rosé wine blend of white and red must, but a blend of red and white grapes harvested and fermented together. This makes the "Tanz auf dem Vulkan" a unique character that cannot be pigeonholed as either a rosé or a white wine.
Behind the Kiefer winery is a family business from Baden in the Kaiserstuhl – that volcanic hilly landscape between the Black Forest and the Rhine, which is one of the warmest wine-growing regions in Germany. The name says it all: volcanic soil made of loess and weathered basalt leaves a noticeable mark on the wines here.
The cuvée combines five grape varieties – Müller-Thurgau, Regent, Muscaris, Pinot Noir and Muscat – into a ruby-red glass with bright reflections. On the nose, red currant, strawberry and a slight hint of nutmeg. Off-Dry here means a subtle residual sweetness that carries the lively fruit without being sticky. The finish is fresh and light, with the lightness of a white wine instead of the heaviness of a red.

The Friedrich Kiefer winery in Eichstetten am Kaiserstuhl looks back on a history that began in 1851 – founded by a teacher from the Markgräflerland region who passionately dedicated himself to what was then a completely new endeavor. Since 2008, the winery has been run by Helene, a certified oenologist, and Martin, a certified engineer, who cultivates over 100 hectares of vines on the characteristic volcanic weathering rock and loess of the Kaiserstuhl region, together with long-standing partner winegrowers. Their motto is "Wine / Style / Performance" – and this is reflected both in their meticulously crafted wines and in labels that inspire enjoyment rather than mere show.
