Kiefer Scheurebe Kabinett, fruity and sweet

Scheurebe from old vines – that is rare, and you can taste it. This Kabinett from the Kaiserstuhl shows what the grape variety can do when it gets time and the right soil.

The vines of the Kiefer winery have been standing since 1976 on loamy loess soil with a volcanic subsoil in the Kaiserstuhl – a combination that brings depth and mineral tension into the glass. This soil stores heat but also provides structure: not soft melt, but raciness.

On the nose, immediately grapefruit and passion fruit, plus a hint of white currant, which is so typical for Scheurebe. In the mouth, fruit-sweet, but with clear acidity in the back – not a heavy dessert wine, but a wine with tension and length. The finish remains true to the citrus fruit with mild bitterness.

Kiefer

The Friedrich Kiefer winery from Eichstetten am Kaiserstuhl looks back on a history that began in 1851 – founded by a teacher from the Markgräflerland who dedicated himself with passion to a task that was completely new at the time.

Since 2008, oenologist Helene and engineer Martin Schmidt have continued to run the business and, together with long-standing contract winemakers, cultivate over 100 hectares of vines on the characteristic volcanic weathered rock and loess of the Kaiserstuhl.

Their motto is “Wine / Style / Performance” – and this is reflected both in artisanally precise wines and in labels that make you want to drink, rather than impress.
