Kiefer Spätburgunder Freche Kaiserstüle off-dry

A Pinot Noir that focuses not on weight, but on liveliness: delicately bitter, light-footed, with clear fruit and a fun-drinking character.

The Kiefer winery is one of the most reliable producers in the Kaiserstuhl region—one of Germany's warmest wine-growing areas, where volcanic soil meets loess loam. This soil retains heat while simultaneously imparting minerality to the vines. The "Freche Kaiserstühler" (Cheeky Kaiserstuhl Wine) is the uncomplicated wine in the Kiefer range: not a showy wine, but one of those bottles you open without much hesitation and are rarely disappointed by.

In the glass, it shines a deep ruby red. The nose reveals sour cherry and raspberry, with a hint of red currant. On the palate, it remains lean—the slightly tart residual sweetness provides a gentle smoothness without making the wine heavy. The tannins are soft, the acidity fresh enough for drive and length.

Serving temperature 14–16 °C. Pairs well with wild salmon fillet with herbs, beetroot salad with goat cheese, or a charcuterie board with medium-aged Gouda. Also a solid choice to accompany light pasta dishes. Drink now.

Kiefer

The Friedrich Kiefer winery in Eichstetten am Kaiserstuhl looks back on a history that began in 1851 – founded by a teacher from the Markgräflerland region who passionately dedicated himself to what was then a completely new endeavor. Since 2008, the winery has been run by Helene, a certified oenologist, and Martin, a certified engineer, who cultivates over 100 hectares of vines on the characteristic volcanic weathering rock and loess of the Kaiserstuhl region, together with long-standing partner winegrowers. Their motto is "Wine / Style / Performance" – and this is reflected both in their meticulously crafted wines and in labels that inspire enjoyment rather than mere show.
