Kiefer Gewürztraminer Spätlese dry

A Gewürztraminer that makes no compromises in expression: opulent in aroma, yet surprisingly structured on the palate thanks to the late harvest ripeness and dry winemaking method.

The Kiefer winery cultivates vineyards in the Kaiserstuhl – one of Germany's warmest wine-growing regions, characterized by volcanic subsoil and loamy loess soil. It is precisely this soil combination that gives the Gewürztraminer its body: the volcanic layers provide mineral tension, while the loess loam ensures richness. The south-facing slopes bring ripeness without making the wine heavy.

In the glass, an intense bouquet of rose petals, lychee, and orange peel unfolds, with hints of ginger and white pepper – typical of the grape variety, but here with a clear focus. On the palate, the dry style follows the aromatics with a firm structure: medium body, subtle spice, and a long finish with slightly bitter citrus notes. Two silver medals at the AWC Vienna in 2015 and 2016 confirm the wine's quality across several vintages.

Serving temperature: 10–12 °C. Pairs well with Alsatian Munster, foie gras, Thai curry with coconut milk or roasted rack of lamb with herb crust.

The Friedrich Kiefer winery in Eichstetten am Kaiserstuhl looks back on a history that began in 1851 – founded by a teacher from the Markgräflerland region who passionately dedicated himself to what was then a completely new endeavor. Since 2008, the winery has been run by Helene, a certified oenologist, and Martin, a certified engineer, who cultivates over 100 hectares of vines on the characteristic volcanic weathering rock and loess of the Kaiserstuhl region, together with long-standing partner winegrowers. Their motto is "Wine / Style / Performance" – and this is reflected both in their meticulously crafted wines and in labels that inspire enjoyment rather than mere show.
