Kiefer Scheurebe Kabinett, fruity and sweet
Scheurebe on old vines – that's rare, and you can taste it. This Kabinett from the Kaiserstuhl region shows what the grape variety is capable of when given time and the right soil.
The vines of the Kiefer winery have been growing on loamy loess soil with a volcanic subsoil in the Kaiserstuhl region since 1976 – a combination that brings depth and mineral tension to the glass. This soil stores heat but also provides structure: not a soft, creamy texture, but rather character.
The nose immediately reveals grapefruit and passion fruit, along with a hint of white currant, so typical of Scheurebe. On the palate, it's fruity and sweet, yet with a distinct acidity – not a heavy dessert wine, but a wine with tension and length. The finish remains true to the citrus fruit with a mild bitterness.
