Winzerkeller Sommerach Silvaner QbA dry

A Silvaner as it should come from Franconia: down-to-earth, direct, with the characteristic spice of the region – and refreshingly uncomplicated in the best sense.

Winzer Sommerach is one of Franconia's most traditional winegrowers' cooperatives, founded in 1901 on the Main River bend near Volkach. Around 300 member winegrowers jointly cultivate the vineyards around Sommerach – a place known for its limestone soils. This very subsoil is crucial in shaping the Silvaner: the weathered limestone gives the wine a subtle minerality and the typical herbal depth that distinguishes Franconian Silvaner from white wines of other regions.

In the glass, it displays a pale straw yellow with green reflections. The nose offers aromas of Granny Smith apple, a touch of citrus peel, a hint of green herbs, and a subtle hint of spice in the background. On the palate, it is medium-bodied, with lively, uncomplicated acidity and a dry, slightly spicy finish – typical Franconian style, without any frills. The texture is lean and fresh, without being flat.

Serving temperature: 10–12 °C . Best drunk young, within the next one to two years.
Goes perfectly with Franconian bratwurst, white asparagus with hollandaise, goat cheese or a classic snack platter with Obatzda and radishes.

Winzer Sommerach

Winzer Sommerach is the oldest winegrowers' cooperative in Franconia – founded in 1901 by 35 winegrowing families who joined forces to survive during a time of phylloxera infestation and plummeting prices. Today, 90 families carry on this tradition, cultivating around 200 hectares on the Main River loop and tending the Sommeracher Katzenkopf vineyard, one of the most important sites in the region. Their motto, "High standards make the difference," is not just a slogan: every bottle can be traced back to a specific winegrower and their vineyard – transparency and community as a lived principle for over 120 years.
