A Rotling from Franconia – not a rosé imitation, but a distinct wine style made by vinifying red and white grapes together. The result: a light, salmon-pink wine with the character of a light summer wine, refreshing and easy to drink.
The Sommerach winegrowers are among Franconia's most traditional cooperatives, with vineyards around the Volkach Main bend. Their Sommerlust rosé embodies the cooperative's approachable style: suitable for everyday enjoyment, seasonal, and honestly made.
In the glass, fresh strawberry, a hint of red currant, and a touch of white peach. The acidity is soft, the body light – not a wine for pairing with a large meal, but just right for warm evenings without much fuss. The finish is short and pleasantly fruity.

How does the Sommerlust Rotling taste – is it sweet or rather dry?
It is off-dry – meaning it has a subtle residual sweetness that does not feel heavy. In the glass, fresh strawberry, a hint of red currant, and some white peach, accompanied by a soft acidity and a light body. Not a complex wine, but an honest summer drinker.
What actually is a Rotling – is it the same as a Rosé?
No. For a Rotling, red and white grapes are pressed together – this is a distinct wine type legally defined in Germany. A Rosé, on the other hand, is made from red grapes alone, with short skin contact. The character is similar, but the production is fundamentally different.
What does the Sommerlust pair best with?
It is not a food companion for elaborate dishes – that is not its ambition. It works best with grilled vegetables, summer tarte flambée, or fruit salad, or simply on its own on the terrace. It is also well-suited for an uncomplicated summer aperitif.
At what temperature should I serve it?
Well-chilled at 8–10 °C. Warmer, it loses its freshness, and the fruit then seems flat. Put it in the refrigerator shortly before serving, or keep it at temperature with some ice in a wine cooler.
How long is an opened bottle still drinkable?
Sealed and stored in the refrigerator, it keeps for 1–2 days after opening. After that, the freshness noticeably fades. For a light summer wine of this style, long-term storage is not worth it – it is made for quick consumption.
Is the Sommerlust also suitable for wine beginners?
Yes, it is made exactly for that. 11.5% alcohol, soft acidity, pleasing fruit – not a wine that requires prior knowledge. Those who usually prefer light white wines will quickly find their way here.
The Winery
Winzer Sommerach is the oldest winegrowers' cooperative in Franconia – founded in 1901 by 35 winegrowing families who joined forces during a time of phylloxera infestation and falling prices to survive together.
Today, 90 families carry this idea forward, cultivating around 200 hectares on the Mainschleife and guarding the Sommeracher Katzenkopf, one of the most significant sites in the region.
The motto "Quality makes the difference" is no empty phrase: every bottle can be traced back to a specific winemaker and their vineyard – transparency and community as a lived principle for over 120 years.
