Sommeracher Bacchus semi-dry

Bacchus is Franconia's aromatic answer to summer: a cross between Silvaner, Riesling, and Müller-Thurgau, which reaches a rare level of ripeness on limestone soils in Sommerach am Main. Vinified as a semi-dry wine, with enough residual sweetness to support the tropical fruitiness – without becoming heavy.

Winzer Sommerach is one of the largest winegrowers' cooperatives in Franconia, supported by around 330 members. Their vineyards around the Katzenkopf slope are among the sunniest in the region. The limestone soil here shapes the minerality, and the south-facing slope ensures fully ripened aromas, even in a grape variety that can quickly become unstable.

In the glass, the Bacchus displays aromas of mango and papaya, along with elderflower, which steers the fruity character in a floral direction. The palate is fresh, the acidity lively, the residual sweetness well-integrated – no cloying sensation, but a soft, pleasant finish.

Winzer Sommerach

Winzer Sommerach is the oldest winegrowers' cooperative in Franconia – founded in 1901 by 35 winegrowing families who joined forces to survive during a time of phylloxera infestation and plummeting prices. Today, 90 families carry on this tradition, cultivating around 200 hectares on the Main River loop and tending the Sommeracher Katzenkopf vineyard, one of the most important sites in the region. Their motto, "High standards make the difference," is not just a slogan: every bottle can be traced back to a specific winegrower and their vineyard – transparency and community as a lived principle for over 120 years.
