Castello Banfi Fumaio Toscana Chardonnay Sauvignon Blanc
Fumaio shows what Tuscany can do beyond Sangiovese: a white wine with real freshness, which draws its strengths from the interplay of two grape varieties.
Castello Banfi is one of Tuscany's most renowned wineries, located in Montalcino, where vineyards at altitudes of 250–500 meters ensure cool nights and thus aromatic freshness. Fumaio is the estate's flagship white wine: a blend of Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc under the flexible IGT Tuscany label, which Banfi deliberately uses for wines made from multiple grape varieties.
In the glass, it displays a pale straw yellow color. The Chardonnay brings the richness: pear, white peach, a light, creamy body. The Sauvignon Blanc provides a contrasting element—grapefruit, citrus zest, a fresh, vegetal note that keeps the finish crisp. The acidity is lively without harshness; the wine remains light and inviting.
Serving suggestion: Well chilled at 10–12 °C. Pairs well with grilled sea bass, zucchini irigatoni with lemon zest, or vitello tonnato. Also suitable as a simple aperitif. Drink soon—its charm lies in the freshness of the current vintage.
