Castello Banfi San Angelo Toscana IGT

Castello Banfi San Angelo Toscana IGT
Pinot Grigio from Tuscany — that sounds unusual, and that is exactly what this wine is. The San Angelo from Castello Banfi grows around Montalcino, where the microclimate of the Val d'Orcia ensures longer ripening times and more structure than in the classic Pinot Grigio growing regions of the northeast.
Castello Banfi has been one of the defining wineries of central Italy since the early 1980s. On over 850 hectares in the province of Siena, the estate cultivates international varieties alongside Brunello di Montalcino — including this Pinot Grigio, which is declared as Toscana IGT and can therefore be vinified outside the strict DOC rules.
In the glass, the San Angelo shows a light golden yellow. On the nose, fresh pear and white peach, plus a hint of almond. On the palate, it is lively with well-integrated acidity, more volume than a typical North Tyrolean or Friulian Pinot Grigio — the finish remains clear and mineral. James Suckling rated the 2022 vintage with 91 points.
Serving temperature: 10–12 °C. Goes well with grilled sea bass, zucchini blossoms with ricotta, or a light pasta bianco with seafood.
