Castello Banfi San Angelo Toscana IGT

Castello Banfi San Angelo Toscana IGT
Pinot Grigio from Tuscany — that sounds unusual, and this wine is exactly that. The San Angelo from Castello Banfi grows around Montalcino, where the microclimate of the Val d'Orcia allows for longer ripening times and more structure than in the classic Pinot Grigio growing regions of the northeast.
Castello Banfi has been one of the leading wineries in central Italy since the early 1980s. On over 850 hectares in the province of Siena, the estate cultivates not only Brunello di Montalcino but also international varieties – including this Pinot Grigio, which is declared as Toscana IGT and can therefore be vinified outside the strict DOC regulations.
In the glass, the San Angelo displays a bright golden yellow. The nose offers fresh pear and white peach, along with a hint of almond. On the palate, it is lively with well-integrated acidity, more volume than a typical North Tyrolean or Friulian Pinot Grigio—the finish remains clean and mineral. James Suckling rated the 2022 vintage with 91 points.
Serving temperature: 10–12 °C. Drinking window: now until 2026. Pairs well with grilled sea bass, zucchini blossoms with ricotta, or a light pasta bianco with seafood.
