Senes DOC Cannonau di Sardegna Riserva 0.75L

Cannonau di Sardegna Riserva is one of Italy's most distinctive red wine appellations — and the Senes from Argiolas shows why. Full-bodied, warming, with the depth of a wine from one of the oldest wine-growing regions in the world.

Argiolas is Sardinia's most famous winery, family-owned since the 1930s and largely responsible for bringing Sardinian wines to international attention. The Senes grapes grow on the Costera estate near Siurgus Donigala, at an altitude of 220 meters. The calcareous-loamy soils with pebble inclusions ensure natural drainage and force the vines to root deeply—giving the wine its mineral character.

In the glass, the Cannonau displays dark berry fruit: blackberry, black cherry, and a hint of pomegranate. These are complemented by Mediterranean herbs—rosemary and maquis—and an earthy, slightly leathery note typical of mature Riserva wines made from this grape variety. The tannins are present but well-integrated, and the finish is long and subtly spicy.

Best served at 16–18 °C , it pairs well with braised lamb, wild boar salami, or a robust Pecorino Sardo. It also goes well with pasta and game ragù.

The Winery

Argiolas

Argiolas – the cradle of the Sardinian wine renaissance. Founded in 1938 by Antonio Argiolas in Serdiana, the 230-hectare winery is managed today in the third generation by his grandchildren. Antonio was ahead of his time: larger vineyard areas, focus on quality.

With oenologist legend Giacomo Tachis as a consultant, the sons invested in modernization. Only indigenous grape varieties are cultivated – many almost forgotten. Vermentino, Cannonau, Monica, Carignano – the Mediterranean climate gives them ideal conditions.

The highlight: Turriga, regularly awarded 3 glasses in the Gambero Rosso. Sardinian, elegant, international. Over 2 million bottles annually – Sardinian wine culture for the world.
