Wachtenburg Premium Dornfelder oak barrel

Wachtenburg Premium Dornfelder oak barrel
The Wachtenburg Premium Dornfelder oak barrel is not an ordinary red wine — it is an expression of what the Palatinate can achieve with a local grape variety when craftsmanship and patience come together.
Aged in barriques, this Dornfelder displays a deep ruby red color with bluish highlights in the glass. On the nose, it opens with complex aromas of dark fruit—ripe cherries, blackberry, and a hint of plum—supported by a delicate, integrated oak note that never becomes intrusive. On the palate, the wonderfully soft tannins and a long, harmonious finish are truly impressive. Its quality has earned it the DLG Gold Medal —a recommendation you can trust.
This wine pairs robust dishes with conviction:
- Braised beef or leg of lamb
- Mature hard cheeses such as Comté or aged Gouda
- Game dishes with red cabbage and dumplings
Ideally, open it half an hour before serving and pour it into a wide red wine glass—this allows it to reach its full potential. A wine for evenings when you want things to be calmer, deeper, and more enjoyable.

The Wachtenburg Winzer eG cooperative from Wachenheim on the German Wine Route is one of the oldest winegrowers' cooperatives in the Palatinate region: founded in 1900 by 53 Palatinate winegrowers, it now represents the shared craft of 24 winegrowing families who cultivate 350 hectares together. It takes its name from the striking Wachtenburg castle ruins high above Wachenheim—a landmark that is literally reflected in the wines of this cooperative. The focus is on Riesling, but the range extends to over 13 white and 11 red grape varieties, catering to a wide variety of tastes. High-quality wine enjoyment at fair prices and careful stewardship of the vineyards—this is the shared philosophy that unites all these winegrowing families.
