Signum Aetnae Etna DOC Riserva

Signum Aetnae Etna DOC Riserva
A red wine that embodies the energy of Mount Etna: mineral, complex, with the characteristic tension of volcanic soils.
Firriato is one of Sicily's most renowned wineries and recognized the potential of Mount Etna early on. The vines for the Signum Aetnae grow on the volcano's northeastern slopes at an altitude of around 650 meters – one of the cooler, windswept sites on the mountain. The vineyards date back to the second half of the 18th century, making the vines among the oldest in the region. Grown on volcanic lava rock with low yields, these vines produce grapes of exceptional concentration.
In the glass, the Riserva displays aromas of wild cherry, pomegranate, and dried violets, underpinned by notes of dark spices and a distinct mineral undertone – typical of the ash soils of Mount Etna. The palate is medium-bodied, the tannins firm but without harshness, the acidity fresh and persistent. The finish is spicy and smoky.
Serving temperature: 16–18 °C. Drinking window: 2025–2032. Pairs well with braised lamb, wild boar ragù with polenta or mature Pecorino Siciliano.
