Le Sabbie dell'Etna Etna Rosso DOC

Le Sabbie dell'Etna Etna Rosso DOC is a red wine from the Sicilian volcanic island of Mount Etna, produced by the Firriato winery from grape varieties grown at the foot of the volcano. The name "Le Sabbie" refers to the clay-sandy volcanic soils, which give the wine a distinctive, salty minerality and character.

The blend consists primarily of Nerello Mascalese , complemented by a portion of Nerello Cappuccio , resulting in an aromatically complex yet elegant red wine. After hand-harvesting, the wine matures for six to eight months in wooden barrels (often Slavonian oak), followed by a period of bottle aging before release.

In the glass, it displays a deep ruby red color with ruby reflections. The nose is complex with aromas of dark cherries, currants, cassis, and preserved berries, enhanced by floral nuances, peppery spice, and a typical, slightly smoky volcanic minerality. On the palate, Le Sabbie dell'Etna is juicy and structured, with clear yet rounded acidity, fine but assertive tannins, and a long, spicy finish with lingering notes of coffee and spice.

Its alcohol content is around 13.5–14% ABV; the wine is ideally served at 16–18 °C. It pairs perfectly with hearty pasta dishes with meat sauce, grilled beef or lamb, game dishes, and aged cheeses. Thanks to its stable structure, it is also suitable for longer aging, which allows the aromas to harmonize further.
