Niepoort Tawny 10 Years Old

Niepoort Tawny 10 Years Old
A classic Tawny with the maturation mark of the small wooden cask: aged oxidatively, copper-brown in the glass, yet surprisingly fresh on the finish.
Niepoort is one of the few family-run port wine houses in the Douro Valley – since 1842, now in its fifth generation under Dirk Niepoort. The house stands for meticulous craftsmanship and is among the most prestigious addresses in the region. At Niepoort, Tawny Ports mature in small oak barrels, known as pipes, where contact with oxygen and slow evaporation shape the characteristic aging style.
In the glass, the 10 Year Old displays aromas of orange peel, lemon zest, and candied fruit – along with notes of honey, caramel, and a hint of coffee. The palate is soft and rounded, with an invigorating freshness that maintains the balance of a mature Tawny. A long, slightly nutty finish. Vinum rated it 16.5 out of 20 points.
Serving temperature: 14–16 °C. Pairs well with walnut tart, crème brûlée, mature Manchego cheese, or dark chocolate. Also a good choice as a digestif after a hearty meal.
