Niepoort Dão Rótulo

A red wine from the Dão region that shows what the region can do when you don't get in its way: no oak, no makeup – just fruit, structure and soil.

Niepoort is primarily known as a port wine house, but since the 1990s, Dirk Niepoort has consistently invested in quiet Portugal. The Dão region, situated high on granite soils in the heart of Portugal, provides him with the raw material for this Rótulo – an entry-level port that offers more depth than its price would suggest.

Aged for 22 months in cement tanks – no oak, no vanilla. Instead: wild blackberry, a hint of menthol, and a touch of plum. The acidity is lively, the tannins typically firm for Dão, but not harsh. The finish is clean and fresh.

Best served at 16–17 °C . Pairs well with lamb chops with rosemary, grilled linguça, or a hearty lentil stew. Also a reliable choice as an uncomplicated evening wine without any fuss.
