Niepoort Struwwelpeter Tinto

Niepoort Struwwelpeter Tinto
Niepoort's Struwwelpeter Tinto is a typical Douro red wine: fruity, structured and with real depth for its everyday character.
Niepoort is one of the most renowned independent wineries in the Douro Valley—run by the Dutch-Portuguese Niepoort family since 1842. From the 1990s onward, Dirk Niepoort established the estate internationally as a pioneer of dry Douro red wines. Struwwelpeter is the accessible entry point into their portfolio: uncomplicated, yet expertly crafted.
The nose reveals plum, blackcurrant, and dark cherry, complemented by subtle herbal spice—typical of the Douro's indigenous grape varieties such as Touriga Franca or Tinta Roriz. On the palate, it is medium to full-bodied, with robust but not harsh tannins, vibrant fruit, and a spicy, lingering finish.
- Dishes: Grilled lamb chop, linguça, mature Manchego cheese or pasta with tomato sauce
- Temperature: 16–18 °C
- Occasion: Uncomplicated evening wine during the week, barbecue evening with friends
